The Role Of MDHA In Our Community
Prior to 2009:- Facilitate grant funding for HUD funded homeless services programs (Continuum of Care or CoC grants totaling about $16.5 million annually)
- Administer the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) that drives improvement of federally funded homeless services programs (Currently serves about 9,450 persons)
- Maintain count of persons experiencing homelessness
- Maintain inventory of housing and shelter beds for the homeless and formerly homeless

Minor, But Impactful Needs
Sarah and her daughter Carol were homeless. With the help of their case manager, Marsha, they obtained a housing voucher, and found an apartment. The landlord required payment of an administrative fee of $149, prior to move in. Their only income being inconsistent child support and SSI, they couldn’t afford it. They were stuck. Their story is typical of what many clients face.
In early 2015, surveys of clients and service providers indicated a variety of needs Dallas’ homeless face (beyond housing and supportive services), including access to critical documents, security deposits, transportation, medical costs, job related expenses, basic furniture and household items[i].
